Arenal
Currently one of the worlds most active and picturesque volcanoes.
Its current active period started in 1968 and there have been almost continous daily erruptions (2007).
Arenal can be seen in the distance from Auguas Zarcas, San Rafaeillo Nd the road to Cuidad Quesada which are all on the slopes of volcan Platanar.
It is only an hour and a half drive from Finca Isla on good roads.
Arenal is surrounded by resorts and is a hot spot for volcano watchers.
Even the Landsat satellites have caught the glow of the pool of lava in Arenal's crated (below).
Holocene, the last 11,000 years starting at the end of the last ice age.
